There are many reasons for migrating data into an SAP environment: Merging of companies, rea-lignment and streamlining of the IT landscape, moves to reduce running costs. A company may even want to focus on the archiving functions required for SAP and introduce a more streamlined archiving solution. In this case it’s necessary to replace the old archiving system or even the entire ECM solution. For SAP, an archiving system is used exclusively as a data sink in a similar way to an external data repository. ‘Stored’ data and documents can be accessed via a so-called primary key, and all metadata required for searches can be managed within SAP, which is the control sys-tem. Advantages of this approach: An archiving system doesn’t require its own logic for managing data or its own authorisation system.
