Coats outsourced the KGS archive landscape completely to the Azure Cloud
Neu-Isenburg, 26 April 2016. SAP is the primary ERP system at Coats, and a total of 2,800 users employed in the company’s manufacturing sites use this system across. For many years, the world’s leading industrial thread manufacturer had relied on the solution of another supplier to archive corporate ERP data This has the industrial manufacturer now by a lean, low-maintenance SAP-solution from KGS.
“Traditional archive systems generally require a dedicated database server. This generates additional administrative costs, which we can avoid with KGS ContentServer4Storage, because this tool stores the information required for document access directly in the operating system’s directory and file objects,” explains Hagen Hoss, Platforms and Storage Solutions Architect in the Global Technology team at Coats. KGS performed the migration from legacy to new archive in less than three months using Migration4ArchiveLink, their software for simple and controlled SAP-based archive migrations.
Complete Solution Executed on Microsoft Azure
The global SAP systems – one each in the U.S.A., Europe, East Asia and Southeast Asia – are fully hosted in the private cloud at a Vienna-based data center. Coats also outsourced the KGS archive landscape to the cloud; the servers are located at Microsoft Azure Cloud in Ireland and store data on the Azure file system. A 500-Mbit express link guarantees that the company will not experience any performance issues.
Hagen Hoss: “We are currently preparing to move our SAP suite to Azure in close cooperation with Microsoft and SAP. And over the medium term, we will migrate to S4HANA.” S4HANA in the cloud with an integrated archive – when this becomes reality, Coats will likely be among the first companies to build and operate such a forward-looking architecture.
The global SAP user base at Coats will benefit from greatly simplified and convenient workflows for searching and viewing data as users will no longer need to start an archive client each time, but can rather perform these tasks using the SAP-internal ECL viewer.
From now on, KGS ContentServer4Storage will archive documents originating from the iSeries-based CAS-ERP in KGS ZADOC, a system for SAP-wide document searching and archiving in SAP
